Donations Please

Yesterday my daughter cut almost 1/2 her hair off to donate to Locks of Love. She strode boldly into a local hair salon with her parents, grand parents and siblings in tow, to have at least 10 inches of her 28+ inches of hair cut off in 2 pony tails.
She had been growing her hair out for approximately 3 years since the last time she donated hair to Locks of Love. A friend of the family's mother had cancer a few years ago. Her parents explained what cancer was and what it did to the body, including hair loss when chemotherapy drugs are used to combat the disease. Her heart went out to the children and adults, who lost all their hair, and wanted to do something for them.My daughter's love for humanity, inspired her to initially donate 12 inches in 2006, and now again this year. She is quite the inspiration to me and has me thinking of what I can do for the human race and my community.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Locks of Love is a non-religious, non-political, not-for-profit entity. According to their website, Locks of Love's mission
is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.
It may seem like a small thing to just have 10-12" of hair cut off, but it is a personal sacrifice, as she's been growing and enjoying her long beautiful hair for 3 years. Last night she had some remorse as she looked in the mirror and felt the weight loss from her head. She also worried about what her classmates would say when she walked into school today. Her mother and I explained some good responses, but understand that this donation had some great meaning and some loss to her personally. So I'm looking for opportunities to give, considering how I can do more for those in need. What types of things have you done for others in the last 12 months?
